SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (July 24, 2020) – Nominations are now available for the next round of Thoroughbred stakes at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. The $75,000 Snack Stakes and the $75,000 Ellen’s Lucky Star drew 23 and 25 nominations, respectively. Both stakes are set for Wednesday,
Aug. 5.
The $75,000 Snack Stakes brings in the return of Cash Logistics, winner of the $75,000 Sagamore Sired Stakes in June. Trained by Genevieve Londono, the three-year-old grey son of Unbridled Express is one for one this year and two for three lifetime with a second-place finish as his only defeat. The lightly raced Indiana bred is owned by James and Charlie Hancock.
Joining Cash Logistics as a potential contender for the 12th running of the Snack Stakes title is Two Last Words, winner of the $75,000 Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes on Indiana Derby Day. The son of Commissioner, trained by Tim Glyshaw, is currently three for three in 2020, rallying up in the last stride for the win by a head over Mai Tai’s Gem, who is also nominated to the Snack Stakes. Two Last Words will seek to push his career earnings tally over the $200,000 mark for owner Deann Baer in the one-mile race scheduled for the turf.
Heading the list of nominations for the 12th running of the $75,000 Ellen’s Lucky Star Stakes is Copper Nickel, winner of the Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes for fillies. Trained by Mike Lauer, the Stroll filly, owned by Doris Book, Mike South, and Frank Brown, is currently on a two-race win streak at Indiana Grand this season. With more than $150,000 in career earnings, Copper Nickel will be seeking her fifth career win in her ninth start in the Ellen’s Lucky Star, a one-mile race scheduled for the turf.
The Snack Stakes and the Ellen’s Lucky Star Stakes are part of an abbreviated stakes schedule for 2020 at Indiana Grand. A total of 34 stakes will be contested for purses in excess of $3.2 million throughout the 90-day Thoroughbred meet, which extends through Wednesday, Nov. 18.
