SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (July 17, 2020) – Fancy Creole Queen will be looking to extend her win streak to three in the 12th running of the $108,800 Heartland Futurity Final Wednesday, July 22. The race is carded as the ninth on the program with an estimated post time of 6:04 p.m.

Fancy Creole Queen got her start in racing at Remington Park earlier this year, winning her second try over that track to break her maiden. The Im a Fancy PYC filly then shipped to Indiana for the Heartland Futurity trials where she was a winner and posted the fourth fastest time of the finalists. She was ridden by Shanley Jackson in the trials, but Jackson, who rides primarily for Randy Smith, has secured the mount on WRs Moonin Thewagon, who finished a head back to Fancy Creole Queen in the trials. Erik Esqueda picks up the mount aboard Fancy Creole Queen for the final.

“I got on her (Fancy Creole Queen) when she first shipped in,” said Esqueda. “She’s really a nice, good looking filly and super classy. She knows what she’s gotta do on finals night.”

Fancy Creole Queen is owned by Julio Contreras of Laredo, Texas, who is also the Graded Stakes winning owner of VF Jedi Returns. Rex Dean Brooks trains the Oklahoma bred filly raised by Dustin Cox. Fancy Creole Queen starts from post seven at odds of 5-2.

“Riding for Rex Dean Brooks and his team is a great feeling because I know he comes ready to play,” added Esqueda. “He brought a really nice filly out and she was really impressive on trials night. Now, let’s hope she can double back on finals night and show them she’s all business.”

The second choice on the morning line at odds of 7-2 is another trial winner Shez Bodacious. Trained by Tim Eggleston, the Bodacious Dash filly was the second fastest of the trials. Patti and Brad Marshall purchased Shez Bodacious from the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale this past winter. The Texas bred filly will reunite once again with jockey Natasha Fritz and the duo begins from post two.

The third choice on the morning line is Julias Dazzle, the quickest qualifier from the trials. Hailing from the Tony Cunningham barn, the Foose filly, owned by Jane Marie Arendsen, starts from post one at odds of 6-1 with L. D. “Danny” Martinez aboard.

The entire field for the Heartland Futurity Final, in post position order with jockey and odds, includes: Julias Dazzle (L.D. Martinez, 6-1); Shez Bodacious (Natasha Fritz, 7-2); Heza Fumar Red (Sammy Mendez, 10-1); WRs Moonin Thewagon (Shanley Jackson, 6-1); Milk Shake Baby (German Rodriguez, 8-1); BP Fancy Lady (Cesar Esqueda, 12-1); Fancy Creole Queen (Erik Esqueda, 5-2); Lone Cartel (Giovani Vazquez-Gomez, 10-1); Non Compos (Cristian Reyes, 15-1); and WRs Buster Brown (Juan Marquez, 20-1). Smith will saddle three in the final (Heza Fumar Red, WRs Moonin Thewagon, WRs Buster Brown) and Eggleston will saddle two (Shez Bodacious, Non Compos).

The Blue River Derby will conclude a full week of stakes action Thursday, July 23 at Indiana Grand. The 18th running of the event is slated as the ninth race on the Thursday card.

Live racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 18 with action held Monday through Thursday beginning at 2:20 p.m. Three more Saturday programs are slated for all-Quarter Horse days Aug. 8, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. The Aug. 8 program will begin at 10 a.m.
