SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Dec. 8, 2020) – Indiana Grand Racing & Casino has a longstanding partnership with Helping Hands for Freedom. The annual Heroes Gala is held each spring at the facility but was postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19. Indiana Grand wanted to ensure the support continued for the organization focused on assisting families of fallen, wounded and deployed military individuals. A $10,000 donation was recently presented to the local chapter of Helping Hands for Freedom.

“Like everybody else, we have really taken a hit with the pandemic this year, as have our military families,” said Paul Gable, Midwest Community Liaison. “This donation will go directly to military families with immediate life needs. Our requests had gone up even before COVID. Every year, we get more and more requests, so this donation is greatly needed by our organization.”

Gable said beginning in March, calls from veterans and military families from all over were being received by him at an astounding pace. Many of those requests had been turned down by other organizations and they were reaching out to Helping Hands for Freedom.

“Everybody was tapped out, and it was dire for a while,” added Gable. “We are glad to be back on track with donations such as this one from Indiana Grand.”

Helping Hands for Freedom’s headquarters are in Phoenix, Ariz. but they have an Indiana office, which Gable oversees. They also have locations in Colorado, San Diego, Calif. and Florida, showing the vast number of veterans and military families touched on a daily basis.

Making the presentation to Helping Hands for Freedom included James Baker, director of VIP services and relationship marketing and a director for Helping Hands for Freedom, Mike Rich, senior vice president and general manager, Lindsay Fish, director of sales and business development and Elena Lisle, vice president of marketing. Gable accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
