ITOBA offering Likens Scholar Award

The Indiana Thoroughbred Owner and Breeders Association (ITOBA) is offering a new program through the Herb and Darlene Likens Scholar Award. The 2021 award is available to a student attending an accredited two or four-year college, university, vocational or technical school that is from an Indiana Thoroughbred owner or breeder family or farm.


Applicants for the Likens Scholar Award must be a resident in the state of Indiana and must be a member of ITOBA or the child of a parent or grandparent that is a member of the organization for at least the past two years. The ITOBA member must also have been the breeder of an Indiana Thoroughbred sired or bred horse or have stood a certified Indiana Thoroughbred stallion.


For those applicants who are not an ITOBA member or affiliated with an ITOBA member may apply if they or their parent or grandparent are the owner of a farm in Indiana whose primary business is to stand certified Indiana stallions or foaling Indiana bred or sired foals. The farm must have been in business for the past three years for eligibility of the student. Applicants are also eligible if they are an employee for the past two years of a farm whose primary business is standing a certified Indiana Thoroughbred stallion, breeding and/or foaling certified Indiana bred or sired foals, breaking or training Indiana bred or sired foals, or work in sale prep for horses in the ITOBA Sale.


Applications are now available for qualified students through the website at www.itoba.com and then under the Resources tab. All applications and required documentation should be returned to ITOBA by Sunday, Aug. 15 to be eligible for the 2021 Likens Scholar Award.
