Jeopardy Theory has all the answers in Snack Stakes

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Saturday, July 9, 2022) – Jeopardy Theory just needed some time. After not visiting the winner’s circle as a two-year-old, the flashy grey three-year-old came roaring down the stretch to win the $100,000 Snack Stakes during Indiana Derby Day at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

A mid-gate starting spot had Jeopardy Theory in good position early for a spot near the leaders, but Pedroza opted to easy back off the early speed and cruise along as New Year’s Fever and Alex Achard set the tempo in the one mile turf race. Bonnie Bill and DeShawn Parker had been in stalking position the entire way. Mr Chaos, with Rodney Prescott aboard, was one more lane out and began to pressure New Year’s Fever heading into the final turn. Bonnie Bill and DeShawn Parker also moved up for positioning in the final turn.

As others began to fan out to challenge, Marcelino Pedroza Jr. had Jeopardy Theory moving up on the inside before swinging out and getting racing room on the outside at the top of the stretch. A few taps and Jeopardy Theory was gone, sweeping past his opponents for the open length win in 1:36.30. Humble Warrior and Andres Ulloa closed for second over Amical and Sonny Leon for third.

Jeopardy Theory paid $7.80. The Indiana sired gelding is owned by Ironhorse Racing Stable and trained by Tim Glyshaw, the same connections behind Indiana’s all-time leading earner Bucchero, who is now standing at stud in Florida. He is now three for four in 2022.

“I pretty much was confident after his last time,” said Pedroza Jr., who had a riding triple on the day. “After I rode him, and I’ve worked him, I thought he’d be tough. I hustled him out of the gate to see what the speed would do, so I let the speed go.”

Glyshaw noted Jeopardy Theory has now shown he can race three different ways.

“Before he has won on the lead, he’s won off a stalking spot and now he’s won as a closer,” said Glyshaw. “I was a little concerned when he was far back early because he did that once before and lost interest. But today, he was passing horses and he is a horse that obviously loves the turf.”

Jeopardy Theory earned his first stakes win in his first try. He doubled his career earnings in the race and now has more than $120,000 for his connections.
