SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (July 22, 2021) – As Indiana Grand prepares to host Exotic Animal Racing Saturday, July 24, fans can get a close-up look at the competitors during a special Meet and Greet Friday, July 23 from 4 – 6 p.m. The event is free and open to fans of all ages. The event will be held on the southeast corner of the racetrack with directional signage in place for parking and the exhibit entrance.

The Meet and Greet session provides guests the opportunity to see the competitors up close, take photos and talk with Owner Joe Hedrick, who is from Kansas. Hedrick travels to various racetracks each year to provide the unique races. Indiana Grand is the first racetrack in Indiana to offer exotic animal racing.

A total of 13 exotic animals will compete in exhibition races between the Quarter Horse races on Saturday, July 24. The zebras will be up first with an estimated post time of 12:10 p.m. followed by camels at 1:25 p.m. and ostriches at 2:40 p.m. All three races will be conducted on the track out of the starting gate running a distance of approximately 100 yards. Indiana Grand’s jockeys and exercise riders will be aboard the animals for the event. Quarter Horse racing begins at 10 a.m. leading into the Exotic Animal events.
