SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Oct. 27, 2021) – Racing Rachel’s Warriors Handicapping Contest came to a close Wednesday with the $2,000 final. A total of 23 players, who qualified by winning preliminary rounds throughout the season, participated in the popular event with Ronald Meyer of Indianapolis besting the field and taking home the top prize of $1,000.

Meyer is a longtime horseplayer, but fairly new to the Indiana Grand contests. He was a frequent player at Winner’s Circle in Clarksville, Ind. before relocating to Indianapolis earlier this year. With several wins already this season, he put his handicapping skills to work in the final Wednesday, Oct. 27.

“I just love playing the horses,” said Meyer. “It’s something I really follow, and I really enjoy playing in all of the contests.”

Meyer correctly selected all the winners in the five-race final to post an overall tally of $65.50 in cumulative earnings. Second place went to Mike Hogan of Shelbyville with a final total of $35.50. Jo Ellen Hurst of Indianapolis continued her strong play to finish one dollar back in third while Van R. Bush and Jim Leisure, both of New Palestine, finished fourth and fifth respectively. A total of $2,000 in prize money was distributed among the top five with Meyer taking home the lion’s share of $1,000.

Racing Rachel’s Warriors began opening week in April. The top handicapper each week advanced to a seat in the final. A total of 26 preliminary rounds were held to set up the field of players for the final. In addition to the money, Meyer also received a trophy as the winner of the event.
