Second set of Quarter Horse training races held

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (April 22, 2021) – A second set of Quarter Horse training races were held Thursday, April 22 featuring 11 events for the sprinters prepping for the 2021 racing season at Indiana Grand. Of the 11 races, ten were earmarked for two-year-olds going 250 yards, giving onlookers a first look at some of the local talent headed to the track in 2021.
One set finishing together was in the second race of the day as Honey B and BP Eagle Cartel, both from the Saul Perez barn finished together with Fast N Fancy Stone from the Randy Smith barn. The trio of horses finished together, giving Honey B the nod in :13.90 seconds. Honey B, an Alabama bred filly bred by Paris Wixon by Freighttrain B, is owned by Rodolfo Rodriguez.
The quickest time of the day was recorded in the fourth race as This Lovers Leavin stopped the timer in :13.85 seconds. The son of Coronas Leaving You was guided by Sammy Mendez for trainer Randy Smith. Hutchinson Racing and Debbie Smith own the Indiana bred gelding.
The first Quarter Horse stakes of the season is set for Monday, May 17 featuring he Harley Greene Derby trials. The final will be held on the first All-Quarter Horse Saturday set for June 5 with a first post of 10 a.m.
