SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (June 25, 2020) – Unbridled Class may be a star in Indiana, but her success shines bright well beyond the boundaries of the Hoosier State. Guided by Rodney Prescott, the five-year-old daughter of Unbridled Express defeated a stellar group of allowance mares in the seventh race Thursday, June 25 at Indiana Grand.

Starting from post five, Unbridled Class used just enough early speed out of the gate in the six-furlong contest to get into stalking mode as Marina’s Legacy and Jesus Castanon set the tempo down the backstretch. In the turn, Unbridled Class caught up with Marina’s Legacy and the two matched strides for a few steps before the Indiana sired mare shook loose and got a jump on the field.

In the stretch, Unbridled Class was a comfortable two and one-half lengths ahead as she coasted under the wire for her sixth win at Indiana Grand. Obsolete and Malcolm Franklin moved up late on the outside to finish second over Marina’s Legacy. The time of the sprint was 1:10.87.

“She (Unbridled Class) is just a really nice, classy mare,” said Prescott. “She’s done it all, from turf to dirt to different distances. She’s won races outside of Indiana, even a stakes race (Nelson J Menard Memorial at Fair Grounds). She seems just as good this year as she was last year.”

Prescott was aboard Unbridled Class in four of her five Indiana Grand wins last season. Included in those wins was a victory in the $100,000 Merrillville Stakes. In all, the big grey mare has never missed the board at Indiana Grand in 14 career starts.

A homebred, Unbridled Class has spent her entire career under the direction of Trainer Bernie Flint, who scored his 3,500th career win at Indiana Grand last fall. She is just shy of $400,000 in career earnings and is coming within reach of a spot among the state’s all-time Indiana Thoroughbred Female leaders by earnings.

Unbridled Class is owned by Ron Hillerich’s Hillerich Racing and Flint’s L.T.B. Inc. who serve as breeders for the mare. She has scored 10 career wins in 22 career starts for her connections in three years of action. Unbridled Class was unraced at two.

Live racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 18 with action held Monday through Thursday beginning at 2:20 p.m. Four Saturday programs are slated for all-Quarter Horse days set for July 4, Aug. 8, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. (Photos by Coady Photography)
