Wallace, Johnson tie for Road to the Derby title

It was a close battle throughout the seven-week Road to the Derby contest at Indiana Grand and in the end, there were two winners atop the standings. Steve Wallace and Rick Johnson each completed the contest with a total of 27 points out of a possible 55.
Wallace, a native of Florence, Ky., led the way for most of the Road to the Derby contest, which began Feb. 27 at Indiana Grand. Johnson, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., had back to back winners in the fourth and fifth rounds to tie Wallace heading into the final week of action Saturday, April 10. Both Wallace and Johnson selected third place finisher and favorite in the Arkansas Derby Concert Tour to tie atop the standings.
Wallace and Johnson shared the $1,500 prize money, each taking home $750. Jerry Anderson of Indianapolis and Mary Miller of Shelbyville, Ind., both finished with 25 points to tie for third while Chris Mallon of Burnside, Minn. finished fifth.
A total of 86 players competed in the Road to the Derby contest at Indiana Grand this season. The contest was open to both players on-track as well as on-line. The contest included 11 Kentucky Derby prep races over a seven-week span at seven different tracks.
